After a lovely breakfast, our group began a 3 hour walk around Rome. Our most important destination was the Trevi Fountain. Completed in 1762, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the world. Unfortunately it is currently under restoration, so no water is flowing.
Another popular tourist destination is the Spanish Steps which were also completed in the 1700’s. We didn’t quite have the energy to climb the 135 steps.
Luca, our handsome guide, pointed out one of the many nasone found in Rome. This is a source of fresh water for anyone wanting a drink. Nosone is from the word for nose (naso) in Italian. He pointed out the curve on the nasone matched his Roman nose.
We ended our day with a walk through the Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere where we all were treated to a delicious Italian dinner. The highlight of the evening was the wonderful musicians who serenaded us with many familiar Italian songs.
